Your Inspirational Romantic Wedding Style Guide

How would you define a romantic wedding theme? To us, there are so many factors that go into it. Sometimes it’s all about the lighting — think lots of candlelight and a beautiful place to be at sunset. Sometimes it’s all about the decor — pillowy flowers, soft pastel hues of pinks and sage colours, velvety lounge areas, beautifully draped ceilings, or traditional crystal chandeliers.
When creating the look and feel of a romantic wedding setting, you really want to create a sense of intimacy, no matter what your wedding guest list size. There are dozens of ways to do this. If you’re planning an outdoor wedding, maybe you create small zones for your reception, like a beautifully lit marquee for dinner and then a separate space with twinkling lights overhead and a few seating areas around a dancefloor under the stars. Or, if you’re having an indoor wedding reception in a large hall, you can find ways to bring smaller nooks and zones to life. Maybe you have a secret bar area with only a few seats where guests can escape the party vibes and feel like they’re in their own private oasis for a few minutes of one-on-one catching up with old friends. Fill the space with candlelight and beautiful flowers to give a sense of seclusion and intimacy.
But the most important factor to create a romantic wedding vibe? Your choice of venue makes all the difference. We absolutely love a wedding venue with beautiful gardens to set the scene. You can really play up that feeling of seclusion or a secret garden vibe if your venue has a meandering outdoor space. If you want to create a little more drama because the outdoor space doesn’t have a lot to it, bring in a floral designer who thinks on a big scale. They can bring in a collection of large plant and flower installations to create a more intimate feeling in the outdoor setting.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, many couples opt for an indoor setting that feels romantic because of its historic roots and walls that feel like they’d tell many, many stories if only they could talk. For these kinds of venues, a great way to add romance to the already dramatic setting is to make the space feel a little more personal. It might be that you bring in tall candelabras and flank entrances with big, bold statement florals or beautiful drapery to soften the spaces.
